Design Objects combining aesthetics & meaningfulness
The FormBar is a counter where delicious design objects are served. The design studio’s work combines a careful balance of aesthetics, utility, and a sustainable philosophy to life. Continue down to discover the currently developed project inslä, a classroom stool for healthy and diverse sitting habits for pupils.
Product in Development
inslä — The active classroom stool that encourages children to discover their preferred posture to learn.
Pedagogy
Inspired by the Montessori Pedagogy and current approaches like the Churermodell and AdL (mixed-age classes) the stool makes children have more dynamic working postures without the constant need for the teacher to also take care of sitting habits.
Materials
The stool is made from Swiss ash wood, natural wool felt and textiles from Kvadrat. The «pizza pattern» of the seat pad is the result of using sample leftovers from Kvadrat. Future iterations will feature a unicolor cover.
Activation
Its rounded base allows for gentle movement and thus helps activating different muscle groups.
Freedom of Posture
The large seat surface makes the transition from playful, childlike learning on the floor to the more rigid, grown-up-like work at the table in school less jarring. Young pupils can move and position themselves freely on the seat.
Toolbox
The stool has two additonal components stored under the seat. Building blocks have a long history in education and these two elements similarly allow various combinations of seating configurations.
Stable Sitting
The wooden ring stored under the seat can be placed under the stool to create a stable sitting experience for tasks where movement can be problematic. For example learning to write.
Body Angles
There is a small footstool stored under the seat that can be used to place the feet in an elevated position in order to change the angles of the body while sitting. It can even be placed on the seat to make it work as a standing support.
Sitting Variety
The stool allows many ways of sitting and doesn't prescribe a specific posture. Young pupils can discover sitting freely and establish their «right learning posture» on their own. Especially the large seat surface enables floor like postures that young children naturally adopt.
Addition to Chairs
It’s not meant to replace the chair. Classrooms with free choice of desk should have one to three desks with such a stool, so children can choose how they want to work from lesson to lesson.

Behind the Counter
The FormBar is the young object design practice of Swiss product designer Frank Frick. It's a bar in the sense that it's not only where you find aesthetic design objects but that it's a counter for all design-related topics. Whether you find something to enrich your life or a talk results in a collaboration, a valuable opinion or some good laughs, the bar will have had a successful day already. The studio's goal is to create things that are relevant to your life, your space, or to society as a whole. To positively influence our material culture.
